Ms. Fazana Saleem-Ismail has a spirit of entrepreneurship and creativity. Fazana has single handedly and in a very unique way, made significant impact on her community.

Not only has Fazana contributed so much to the happiness and improvement of the quality of people’s lives in her local community, she is a very kind and charitable woman who leaves a lasting impression on those that she works with!

We feel very privileged to have the opportunity to recognize Fazana on April 23, 2014 at the GOBY Awards for everything she has done, and are excited to see her continued success with whatever endeavor she pursues!

Fazana Saleem-Ismail is the founder of Jazzy Sun Birthdays, a project that has been hosting personalized birthday parties for almost 100 children living in local homeless shelters since May 2011. Fazana hails from New York City where she worked for four years as a program officer at the Robin Hood Foundation, which works to alleviate poverty among residents of the five boroughs. Her primary responsibilities included recommending and monitoring grants to food pantries, soup kitchens, food banks and homeless shelters. She also directed a project designed to raise awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit among low-income workers.
In 2005, Fazana received a Community Capacity Builders Award from the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic in recognition of her work at Robin Hood. Later that year, Fazana and her family moved to Sri Lanka to assist with tsunami-rebuilding efforts.
Upon their return to the United States in 2008, the family moved to the Capital Region and Fazana quickly became involved in community activities. She has served as a Parent Services Coordinator and Secretary of the Parent-Teacher Organization of AnNur Islamic School and as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She is currently active in fundraising efforts for the DC Stars gymnastics team.
Fazana has been working as a Research Scientist/Training Program Evaluator at the Professional Development Program of the Research Foundation of SUNY since 2012, but still considers motherhood her most important job. Fazana’s two children were the inspiration behind Jazzy Sun Birthdays and this project borne from the heart is named after them.

Leah Powell Tyrrell is an individual that is committed to community service and philanthropy, who we are very excited to announce, that we will be honoring Leah on April 23rd, 2014, at the GOBY Awards as the recipient for the Volunteer Spirit Award!

Leah Tyrrell is the co-owner of Tala, An American Bistro, located in Latham, New York. Prior to becoming a restaurateur, Leah worked as the Director of Marketing for the Desmond Hotel, organizing large events such as the Albany American Wine Festival as well as the hotels New Years Eve Festivals. She also was appointed by Governor George Pataki as the Director of Internal Communications for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.

She was introduced to the power of volunteerism while working as the Executive Director of The Volunteer Center of the Capital Region, which acted as a clearing house for volunteers providing service to the not for profit community. Leah founded and chaired the Holiday Kickoff Party, which is now the flagship fundraiser for the Saint Peter’s Hospital Foundation.

Leah has volunteered her time and service for many charities including The St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation, The Albany Tulip Ball, The Shaker Museum and Library, The Homeless and Travelers Aid Society, The Saint Gregory’s School For Boys, The Academy of the Holy Names, The Irish American Partnership and many others. Leah lives in Loudonville with her husband Tom and their two children Thomas and Emily.

Clifford

The Stakeholders is very excited to honor Lisa M. Clifford as the award recipient for the Volunteer Spirit Award!

Ms. Clifford has had a significant impact on our community, demonstrates the true meaning of volunteerism and excels in whatever endeavor he encounters. Congratulations, Lisa! Lisa Clifford is an Investment Solutions Specialist with Key Private Bank. In this role, Lisa is responsible for building investment management and trust relationships in the Capital Region as part of Key’s comprehensive wealth management services. Lisa also serves as a member of the region’s Family Wealth team which focuses exclusively on ultra-high net worth clients to help them preserve and grow their wealth across generations.
Prior to joining Key, Lisa was senior vice president with Curran Investment Management, where she was responsible for overseeing the delivery of the firm’s wealth management services. She began her career at First Albany Corporation where she provided investment management services to high net worth individuals and institutional investors.
Lisa appears monthly as a guest on WNYT TV Channel 13’s “Money Monday” midday show. She has been honored by the Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Business Council as a Woman of Excellence in Sales and Marketing and is the recipient of the Business Review’s 40 Under Forty Award.
Lisa earned her bachelor’s degree in management with a concentration in finance from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y.
Lisa is active in the community and is President of Wildwood Foundation, having been a member of the board for over 10 years. She has been involved with many local organizations and is a past board member of The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region and Ellis Hospital Foundation. Born and raised within Albany, NY, John Matthew Douglas has lived at times within the counties of Rensselear, Albany, Schenectady, and Saratoga. After graduating from Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady, NY John volunteered for the United States Army. During which time he received several promotions and special assignment as Recruiters Aide before completing his final Military

Assignment at Fort Hood, Texas, 89th ARMY honorable discharge he returned back to the New York State Capital Region. John was then employed for several years as a waiter, and also at the historical Jack Oyster House Restaurant of Albany, NY. He moved on to work within the Automobile Industry, Local Television Broadcasting (Sales-Account Management), and Telecommunication Industry before returning back to college as an adult student to complete a Bachelors of Science Degree In Business Management and Economics-Healthcare Administration. It was during that time John uncovered his passion.
John has also been an active Corporate Volunteer for the City of Albany, New York’s “Alive @ 5” between 1999-2001 and was chosen to be a member of the Albany, NY US Olympics local Torch Bearer selection committee. John has also been a volunteered with the Upstate New York United Way of America. Presently John continues to work within the Healthcare Industry, namely, Pharmaceutical- Quintiles, Inc. And, has worked for Global Healthcare Firms of Bristol Myers Squibb, Novartis, and Nestle Health Science, Inc.
With the love, inspiration, and support of his wife of 18 years, Sharon R. Douglas of Colonie, NY, John remains committed to volunteerism as an Upstate, New York and Vermont Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Patient Services Committee Member, Light the Night Committee Member, and Board of Trustees Member, and he is also a Mentor and founder of the emerging “I PRESS FORWARD>RELEASE MY GREATNESS>UNCOVER MY PASSION>BELIEVE IN MY VISION” volunteer mentorship program.
